Abstract
The major goal of the present thesis was to investigate adaptations in the visual system in the massive adaptive radiation of cichlid fishes in the relatively clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. Based on whole genome and retinal transcriptome data in combination with ecological, phenotypic, as well as phylogenetic information, we explored the diversity and dynamics of the visual opsins of Lake Tanganyika cichlids.
