Abstract

The process of Christianization of pagan Rhetoric, which begins in the Middle Ages as a shy prediposition to adapt the grecolatins arts, will not be realized until the Renaissance. Throughout the sixteenth century, the preacher's lack of resources and knowledge resulting from medieval ideas starts to be vehemently felt. To tis must be added the consequences of the Protestant Reform, the measures taken at the Council of Trent, the rise of the Classical Rhetoric to the sacred oratory to spread its dogma and to fight against the Reform –without mentionning the process of evangelization of the New World. It is in this context that Luis de Granada wrote his treatise, to instruct the preachers of his time and to provide them with the necessary means without repeating the oratory obscurity that persisted from the past.
