Abstract

The increasing interest in web services has led toa recent proliferation of service-oriented platforms forsupporting Scienti c Workows in a variety of e-Science domains. These platforms mainly addressthe application-speci c composition and enactment ofworkows. However, since scienti c workows arecharacterized by complex computations and large vol-umes of data, non-functional criteria like Quality ofService (QoS) guarantees can signi cantly raise thepredictability of the computations, and thus consti-tute an important bene t to users. This paper intro-duces the DWARFS vision of a distributed executionengine for Scienti c Workows which features supportfor QoS guarantees by making use of Advance ResourceReservations. In particular, we present the DWARFSmethodology to enact workows under QoS constraintsand report on the ongoing implementation activities.
