Abstract
Ich konzipiere den in London wirkende Schweizer Maler Heinrich Füssli (Henry Fuseli, 1741-1825) als Klassizist, die eine neue Sichtweise der Antike eingeführt hat: nicht als Modell der Nachahmung, sondern als achtbare, aber fremde Kultur. Füsslis Zeitgenossen (Mary Wollstonecraft, Erasmus Darwin, J.J. Winckelmann) werden auch aufmerksam diskutiert, um die politische und ästhetische Folgen dieser Veränderung zu verstehen.
