Abstract
Until today, the Spanish of Equatorial Guinea is a linguistic variety that has been ignored in many studies on history, dialectology and sociolinguistics of the Spanish language. In a similar way, and in contrast with other Spanish speaking groups, the Equatoguinean immigrants in Spain constitute a hardly visible group, which so far has not been considered in sociolinguistic investigations on the immigrant population in the Spanish society. This paper aims at improving the visibility of the Equatoguineans and their sociolinguistic situation in Madrid through a first analysis of their attitudes toward the Spanish of Madrid and the Spanish spoken in their country of origin. The data is drawn from ten interviews that were conducted in 2017 in Madrid with immigrants from Equatorial Guinea. The results will be connected with the historical, political and sociolinguistic context in which the contact between these two varieties of Spanish takes place.
