Transnationale Protestbewegung in der Abstiegsgesellschaft. Die Occupy-Proteste in Deutschland

Seit 2011 ist es zu einer neuen Welle von globalen Protestbewegungen gekommen, von der bisher noch offen ist, ob es sich um einen neuen „Cycle of Contention“ handelt. In dem Working-Paper wird anhand der Occupy-Proteste der transnationale Charakter der Protestbewegungen analysiert und der Bezug zu einer globalen Moderne diskutiert. Für die westlichen Gesellschaften, so die These des Papers, ist Occupy eine emblematische Protestbewegung, die die Frage von Citizenship politisch artikuliert und auf sozialen Abstieg reagiert.
Since 2011, a new wave of protest movements has swept across the globe and it is yet unclear whether they constitute a new “cycle of contention”. By looking at the Occupy protests, the paper analyses the transnational character of these protest movements and discusses their relation to a global modernity. Furthermore, it advances the thesis that the Occupy movement represents an emblematic protest movement for western societies that articulates the question of ‘citizenship’ politically and reacts to downward social mobility.
