Wissenschafltiche Publikationen über diese Kuren sind rar und meist pauschal ablehnend. Zum besseren Verständnis dieses Widerspruchs bezweckt dieser Review eine Bestandesaufnahme der Angebote, eine Analyse der Wirksamkeit aufgrund wissenschaftlicher Kriterien sowie eine kritische Evaluation der Rolle der Schulmedizin in der Therapie des Übergewichtes.

This review summarizes the major areas of consensus and controversy concerning the health implications of obesity and weight loss and suggests novel directions for treatment.
