An analysis of old excavations in the Liebrüti brickyards east of Kaiseraugst, attributed to the Legio I Martia, shows that although the first tiles bearing its stamps were available at the beginning of the fourth century, production of unstamped tiles continued until late in the fourth century. These latest products, however, cannot be safely attributed to the legion. The geographic distribution shows a production destined to the Sequania province, the efficient distribution along the border relying mainly on the Rhine waterway, while the hinterland was supplied overland. Contemporary civilian brickmakers also delivered over unusually long distances.
