Abstract
A comparison is made between the bone material of pits and cultural layers of the late Iron Age settlement of Basel-Gasfabrik (Switzerland). The question of whether the pits contain other bone refuse than the cultural layers is explored by taking a look at the history of deposition by comparing species ratios and bone preservation.
