Die Frau und der Drache: Betrachtungen zur mythologischen Bildwelt von Apk 12

Discussing the mythological references in Rev. 12 the present study not only looks at textual traditions but also at iconographic examples of heavenly women and dragons. Through this double perspective mythological elements from the narrative and iconic repertoire of Isis and of Leto come to the fore. The text of Rev. 12, however, does not relate genealogically simply to one clear-cut myth but mixes different elements together, so as to ensure its readers that the definitive perspective underlying all suffering of the righteous ones is the defeat of the «dragon».
