Abstract
35 children with surgically treated hydrocephalus and 35 healthy children were examined using psychological tests measuring intelligence, verbal comprehension, memory and motor development. Children with hydrocephalus had lower scores in all psychological tests and obtained lowest scores in tests measuring motor development. Intelligence, memory and motor development were negatively correlated with age at the time of neurosurgical treatment. Longer time intervals between date of diagnosis and date of operation resulted in lower scores of verbal comprehension and motor development.
