Abstract
The present paper provides a translation of the ``need for cognition`` scale, originally presented by Cacioppo & Petty (1982). As the original the German version allows an efficient assessment of individuals` tendency to engage in and enjoy thinking. In addition to good psychometric parameters, an experimental validation demonstrates its external validity. Thus, the scale allows to investigate dispostional differences in the intensity of cognitive processing, and its impact on social judgment and behavior.
