Abstract

Vesuvianite in massiv form of a reddish colour from a new location in N-Pakistan is described. The polycrystalline material occurs in carbonate bearing hydrogrossular vesuvian skarn. Our research was performed on thin sections, other samples were analysed by Raman-, UV-VIS and Gem TOF MS spectroscopy. The reddish colour is related to Mn and/or Fe traces. The vesuvianite is suitable for cabochons and its identification with gemmological tools alone may be difficult.
