Abstract

The essay attempts to show some features of the Argonauts' myth that could have induced Dante to choose the quest for the Golden Fleece as symbol of the Comedy's third cantica. The author examines specifically the lines 94-99 of Paradiso's canto XXXIII, where a sudden transition from the point of view of 'Dante the poet' to that of 'Dante the character' seems to take place. The analysis of the symbolic connections implicated in these lines induces to recognize an association between the Golden Fleece and the Christian God, which Dante could have made on the basis of some biblical and figurative sources.
