Abstract

Background: Measures of acute stress responsivity serve as an index for general physiological functioning and health. Concerning young children these measures have been inconsistent in previous studies due to cortisol hyporesponsivity in this age and methodological differences (i.e. inappropriate task, no consideration of potential determinants etc.). The aim of this study was to investigate stress responses during an age-adapted stress task for preschoolers and to detect task- and child-related determinants.
