Abstract
The article presents the recent developments in diplomatic history and discusses the close relations to global history. Recent publications have a strong interdiscplinary focus and an increasingly practical orientation. In addition, modern diplomatic history critically discusses modernisation strategies and its historiographical, often Eurocentric background. In a global context, innovative research in diplomatic history follows a transnational research focus, whose innovative potential is a central argument in this article.
