How cultural practices can be safeguarded for the future is one of the core issues of the UNESCO Intangible cultural heritage-convention. However, the convention uses a very broad understanding of measures for safeguarding. The article explores the safeguarding-strategies of three theatre projects. As it became apparent, the practitioners strongly linked transmitting the practice of doing theatre to the continuity of the groups. Structural and institutional aspects are thus perceived to be of great importance in the safeguarding-process - a fact that has so far received little attention in the ICH-convention
