Abstract

Partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) is a water-soluble fiber if added to oral rehydration solution (ORS) and undergoes fermentation in the colon liberating short chain fatty acids (SCFAs). SCFAs potentiate the effect of ORS, reducing the severity of diarrhea.
