Abstract

This article deals with the written texts concerning the fear of the Mesopotamian rulers of being forgotten after death. The rulers have cuneiform texts hidden in the foundations of buildings which report their achievements and glory. Often there are curses against anyone who will do harm to the texts, or blessings to those who will respect the texts in the future. The custom to hide such texts is traced uninterrupted from the mid of the third millennium BCE till the fall of Babylon in 539 BCE.
