Abstract

This article provides an overview of selected topics in the complex discipline of epidemiology. The aim is to focus the reader's attention to key points of epidemiology, such as definition and scope of epidemiology, criteria for causal inference, measures for morbidity and mortality, study designs, and measures of potential for prevention. Sample calculations help for a better understanding of the presented measures.
