Abstract

The problem of the as jet not very convincing identification of the structures "five walls" as mentioned in the Turin Strike Papyrus and in other administrative documents form Deir el-Medine could be resolved by interpreting the term as a totum pro parte. On this basis the five walls must not be located on the same way leading away from Deir el-Medine but could localized on five different spots in the area. Five places were proposed for the location of the walls which allow the separation of royal necropolis including the village, which was the main function of those walls.
