Abstract

The reaction of 2,2′:6′,2″:6″,2‴-quaterpyridine (qpy) with chromium compounds has been investigated. Treatment with [Cr(H2O)4Cl2]Cl · 4H2O for short periods results in the formation of [H2qpy]Cl2, but prolonged reaction times allow the preparation of salts of trans-[Cr(qpy)Cl2]+. The crystal structure of the salt trans-[Cr(qpy)Cl2]Cl · 2H2O is described.
